چکیده

Vegetation growing on the surface of a streambank has been shown to alter the shear stresses applied to the boundary, but basic questions remain regarding the influence of vegetation and streambank configurations on near-bank hydraulics. In the present study, Froudescaled flume experiments were used to investigate how changes in vegetation density (ratio of frontal area to channel area, including both stems and leaves) and bank surface angle influence near-bank turbulence intensities (RMSu;v;w) and Reynolds stresses (τuv and τuw) estimated using velocities obtained with an acoustic Doppler velocimeter positioned beneath the canopy. Results illustrate how, with increasing vegetation density, turbulence intensities and Reynolds stresses decreased along the sloped bank surface but increased at the base of the slope and within the main channel. The steeper bank angle resulted in greater vertical stresses on the bank surface than the shallower angle, but lateral momentum exchange was larger than vertical exchange along the base of the slope, regardless of bank angle. Leaves were an important influence on near-bank turbulence intensities and Reynolds stresses, whereas the influence of bank slope was small relative to the influence of vegetation density. The influence of vegetation on turbulence and flow velocities in European salt-marshes

Flow hindrance by salt-marsh vegetation is manifested in the structure of the tidal current; it has a significant impact on sediment transport and causes increased sediment accretion. The flow characteristics in 3 different vegetation types (Spartina maritima, Sp. anglica and Salicornia/Suaeda maritima) were measured on 3 salt-marshes in Portugal and England. Skimming flow develops above the Sp...

اهمیت تاج پوشش تک پایه های درختی در حفظ بانک بذر گیاهان مناطق خشک (مطالعه موردی: زرین دشت، استان فارس)

This study aimed to investigate the effect of canopy cover of individual woody patches on soil seed bank characteristics viz. density, richness and the similarity between soil seed bank and above ground vegetation. The study was conducted in Mazayjan, Zarindasht, south of Fars province in 2013. Therefore, 40 4m2 plots beneath and outside of Ziziphus spina-christi (dominant woody species) were e...

تأثیر توده‌های چوبی بر تراکم بذور موجود در بانک بذر خاک مراتع مشجر در کرمان

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of crown canopy of Pistacia atlantica, Amygdalus scoparia and A. eburnea species on seed bank density (size). Ten individuals of each species were selected and one plot under and another plot outside of the crown canopy of each species were established. In each plot, soil sampling was done from 0-5 and 5-10 cm depths. The soil seeds were id...

Soil seed bank size and composition under Pteridium aquilinum invasion in summer rangelands of Bandpay Babol, Mazandaran province

Pteridium aquilinum is known as an invasive species  in different ecosystems of the world. The spread of this species is increasing in the north of Iran particularly outside of forest ecosystems. In this study, the amount and composition of soil seed banks in the dense pathes of  Pteridium were investigated in summer rangelands of  Bandpay in the south of Babol city in Mazandaran province, Iran...
